Job Description


The Corporate Communications Director will focus primarily on developing and implementing internal communication initiatives that engage FirstKey Homes’ Keypers, reinforce company priorities, and shape company culture. The individual will work in close collaboration with the CCO and vital function stakeholders (HR, Technology, Operations, and Marketing). This position requires a passion for story telling; someone who is innately curious, self-driven, multifaceted with proven communications experience, effective interpersonal skills, project management and planning capabilities, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.


  • Develop and implement company-wide internal communication strategies and programs that engage, inspire, and align employees with FirstKey Homes brand, vision, priorities, and key initiatives.
  • Seamlessly integrate internal communications into the wider communications approach and potential external context (e.g. social media channels).
  • Develop scalable communications channels to share information and ensure employees are kept apprised of key activities, including the current channel mix.
  • Creatively consider best ways to communicate information (including the development of an editorial calendar) and bring a point of view on tone, content, and distribution strategy.
  • Collaborates and provides strategic counsel on system-wide communication efforts regarding HR (Talent, Recruitment and Retention, Recognition, Benefits annual enrollment, Policy, and Diversity and Inclusion, and Engagement Survey, ), Finance, Technology, Legal and Marketing.
  • Lead communications for major business programs and company initiatives-using channels and content to engage and inspire our employees and create desired actions and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the CCO to develop best practices/KPIs to enable continuous improvement of the internal communications function. This includes using internal employee engagement and communications data to drive insight that helps us continue to continuously improve the way we listen and communicate across the channel mix.
  • Design and implement employee engagement activities to promote awareness and adoption of key initiatives with special consideration to the current remote work environment.
  • Oversee, generate and/or edit written and visual content and messaging for internal-facing channels.
  • Manage project teams; coach/mentor junior colleagues and team members

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or appropriately related field.
  • 8 years’ progressive experience in strategic internal/employee communications plan development and execution.
  • 5 years' successfully supporting communications for senior leadership and executive teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple and changing priorities while maintaining strong focus on execution and results.
  • Ability to influence conversations and work through building of relationships, thoughtful framing of issues, and building influence through excellent work.
  • Exceptional writer with strong strategic, content creation/shaper with solid issues management messaging experience.


  • Blend of agency and Corporate PR work
  • Demonstrated experience with community relations
  • Media relations experience


  • Communications and Media— Knowledge of communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual
  • English Language— Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
